I was driving up North Penn on my way to Penn Square, and noticed a new apartment-looking structure being built just south of I 44. It was under consruction, and the facade was going up, but it looked way too nice to be a retail center.

Does anyone know exactly what they're building there?

I know there is one on the right just south of Homeland that has been partially constructed for quite some time now - Just soakin in the rain. Maybe this is what you're referring to.

And these are apartments, right?

When I say right, I mean East smile.gif -- Yes, look like apartments to me.

I don't know any details about the project, but it sure looks like the bank has pulled the plug on the construction or there is some other problem that has brought things to a total halt. If they don't get all that framing under a roof pretty soon, it'll be too far gone to save.

So this will be simillar to Barcelona's Sagrada de Famillia? I'll remember not to take North Penn for the next 20 years in that case...

Your comparison to financing coming and going is quite apt Spartan, but at the present time, according to a piece on the History Channel yesterday evening, construction of Gaudi's incredible design continues with about 150 workers on the project each day. However, the amount of work remaining is such that completion is not expected until around 2040. Though I'm not totally sure about the date. I believe that the chapel will open in 2008 for regular services though.

Here is a link to the status of construction as of June 2005. I didn't have time to go through it completely, so there may be estimated completion dates for the various compenents of the massive cathedral etc.

In 2003, I visited Sagrada Familia for about half a day and toured several other examples of Gaudi's work in Barcelona. What an incredible city. We stayed in a small hotel on the Rambala for about a week. A totally memorable experience. Here is a link to a good photo spread of Gaudi buildings.
