Bixby shopping center planned By ROBERT EVATT World Staff Writer 8/29/2006
Plaza set for northwest corner of 121st and Memorial Retail development in Bixby received yet another boost Monday with the announcement of plans for a 350,000 square-foot shopping center called Centennial Plaza.
The center will be constructed on 35 acres on the northwest corner of 121st Street and Memorial Drive. The land was recently purchased from the estate of Jeromy S. Reese by Bixby Investors LP for $6.27 million.
Stan Frisbie, the broker for the land sale as well as the marketing agent for outparcels and retail space in the planned center, said Bixby Investors already has a major national retailer confirmed as an anchor tenant.
Frisbie said the developers are not yet ready to release further details, including the total cost of the development and its opening date.
City Manager Micky Webb said Centennial Plaza will be the largest shopping center in Bixby. He sees it as part of a boom of new retailers and restaurants in coming years.
"We've had some retail development, and I expect we'll have a lot soon," Webb said.
Another large retail project, a 165,000-square-foot convention center with 130,000 square feet of retail space dubbed Regal Plaza, is under construction at 105th Street
and Memorial Drive. Representatives of Remy Cos., the developer of Regal Plaza, said they will announce more details soon.
When completed, Centennial Plaza will be half the size of Tulsa Hills, a $90 million, 695,000-square-foot shopping center under development in west Tulsa expected to open in 2008.
By comparison, the metro area's two most active shopping malls, Tulsa Promenade and Woodland Hills Mall, are 927,000 square feet and 1.2 million square feet, respectively.
Mark Rooney of CB Richard Ellis/Oklahoma noted that Centennial Plaza's location is farther south than most recent retail development in Bixby.
"Everything's been developing on their north border, with the Wal-Mart just across in the city of Tulsa," he said. "So far, that's been about it."

This will be a pretty big project. I understand Target may be a tenant from a post on the old forum...
