Here's the website that offers an overview of the movement to have a large, centralized city park. Something like Woodward Park but bigger and in downtown.

There is Gusher Park, which will be the trailhead for the Centennial Walk, the new pocket park off to the side of the BOk Center, and the new Main Mall streetscape, plus Central Park.

A downtown commons like in Boston or like Piedmont Park or Centennial Park in Atlanta would be nice. Actually that movement is really old, but it did evolve into an entirely seperate proposal.

http://www.oklahomacentennial.com/Tulsa.php

"Oil Capital Centennial Park will be the premier public park in downtown Tulsa. It will encompass one-half block, running east to west between Boston and Main streets on the south side of Sixth Street."

No buildings are to be torn down for this park.

Half a block? Surely the legendary Boston Commons and the other examples provided are much larger than half a block.

Yes, the Myriad Gardens are even larger than that.

This was the proposed park:

So they're exaggerating when they say the premier park in Tulsa.

Well it's all about location, location, location.

This is a long dead/done project. The land is parkspace, but is owned by Boston Avenue Methodist. Land Legacy built a "pocket park" in the Brady District instead.

Gusher park, or whatever they end up calling it, will be more like what this was envisioned to be, it should start construction pretty soon at 6th and Main.

Yes sadly it is a dead deal...

They are now building that park next to the BOK Arena... The mentioned it in the meeting but I don’t Know how large it well be...

We voted for the 3rd penny and it was in it...

$2.3 million for it...

I know it's an old project, but it sometimes never hurts to come back and review old proposals. smile.gif

It would have been better than the pocket parks they built... The only people using them are the Homeless... The pocket park has two benches... The trees are still to mature...

The Plaza of the BOK Arena is going to be green from what the rendering shows...

I like the myrid garden but everytime I past that area I just think to myself how cool would it be if they had built a 40-50 stories high condos in that area. cool.gif

Back on topic, I like parks and everything but that is pretty prime real estate.
