Fox Lake Plaza, a 48-acre development at 15th Street and Interstate 35, will include more than 415,000 square feet of retail space in addition to out parcels. There will be massive art sculptures marking the entrance from I 35.
There's also a massive 200,000 sf Wal-Mart under construction, that's been called Wal-Mart's prettiest structure to date.

Wal-Mart readies I-35 store
Alice Collinsworth The Edmond Sun
EDMOND — It will be “out with the old and in with the new” for local Wal-Mart stores later this month when Edmond’s oldest Wal-Mart store closes and a new Supercenter opens at 15th Street and Interstate 35.
The Wal-Mart store at 33rd Street and Broadway Extension will close the evening of Sept. 19 with the I-35 Supercenter opening the following morning, said Mike Davis, store manager.
The new facility will include more than 208,000 square feet of retail space, with a full line of grocery items and general merchandise. Several small lease spaces already are rented inside the building, including a hair care center, a nail salon, a McDonald’s restaurant and an apparel shop featuring items from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University.
The store is built on a 24.5-acre site with 22.5 percent dedicated to landscaping.
“It’s one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve seen Wal-Mart build,” Davis said. “It’s really something to see.”
Davis has been working with the company for 17 years, five at Edmond’s 33rd Street store, which employs about 180 people. He will be store manager at the new location as well, overseeing more than 400 workers.
He said he expects his customer base to increase markedly on the heavily used I-35 corridor. Figures from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation show an average of 55,200 cars a day pass between Second Street and 15th Street on I-35.
Edmond is already home to one SuperCenter, which opened at 2200 W. Danforth Road in 2000.
The Edmond City Council originally denied the Fox Lake Shopping Center site plan in August 2004, but voted 3-2 to approve the plan that October after changes were made in the drainage plan.
Tom Parker of Jackson Development is in the process of purchasing the old Wal-Mart building on 33rd Street, said Toni Weinmeister, director of marketing and public relations for the Edmond Economic Development Authority. Parker’s company developed Danforth Square Shopping Center at Danforth Road and Kelly Avenue, along with other metro shopping areas.
Upscale retail and small-scale parcels are planned for the 33rd Street site, Weinmeister said.
Marisa Bluestone, spokeswoman at Wal-Mart corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., said there are currently 56 Supercenters and 27 discount stores in Oklahoma, with 15 neighborhood markets, eight Sam’s Club locations and two distribution centers.
More than 30,000 Oklahomans are employed as Wal-Mart associates, Bluestone said.
By the way, any plans for the old location at 33rd and Broadway? That's a pretty valuable high visibility property, isn't it?

All I know is I think someone's bought it.
Does anyone know if this Wal-Mart is going to be one of the new "upscale" WalMarts? (sounds like lipstick on a pig to me)
I think this was actually planned before Wal-Mart rolled out that concept.

Oh yeah, the ones that are basically trying to compete with the Whole Foods niche... I don't really know. I'm sure they'll offer more upscale products if that's possible for Walmart.
I read today in the Oklahoman that the "building and land surrounding it" is already leased. Several other stores along Broadway have recently closed, like the Albertsons at 15th.

It must have been their new upscale model if Edmond gave it a building permit.

LoopNet shows where Berkshire Plaza (built 2000) at 15th and Broadway was up for sale for $5.3M.. actually it was the national featured property this week that I saw when I first logged in.
Also on LoopNet, Wal-Mart's taking tenants now for retail space up at the front. There's 463 sf in total, and there's no price range posted or any renderings of the Wal-Mart.
