Moore War. It's the greatest high school rivalry across the state. Silver and red collide with blue and red on the football field and battle it out, battle after battle, and whoever wins the war, wins braggin' rights for a year. Westmoore; ZIP 73170; population 37,000. Moore; ZIP 73160; population 48,000. These two areas cover the northern part of suburban Cleveland County.
Westmoore is usually seen as more upscale, while Moore is more down to earth. Westmoore does not have a stadium of its own, they use Moore Stadium for home games too. So you can imagine there's a rivalry. Throw in that this rivalry might be in the final days (with construction of a new high scool), as everyone knows, and you've got yourself a Moore War. Reportedly Westmoore's practice field and windows at Westmoore had been painted red and blue overnight.
I took my son this year to root for the home team, Moore, the high school he'll be going to. You've got to show up around 5:30 in order to get a good seat in the stands. Anyone who shows up after 6:30 is basically guaranteed a nice spot on the grass.
Kick off was at 7:30 after band demonstrations and cheer demonstrations. The wind really kicked in with kick off, coming in strong from the east. That's one thing the points and the wind had in common, even if it was blowing against Moore for the first quarter.
There were no consistant plays. All touchdowns were scored on big plays (for instance an intercepted backwards pass that Moore ran for a touchdown and any broken tackles resulted in big plays), and in the end my camera ran out of batteries. But the only shot I would have taken had I had the chance would be one of the scoreboard...
In the end the #4 ranked team in the entire state, and the team that's lost the War 5 years in a row, we're all tied up. This would normally mean overtime. But as the east wind kept blowing, storms were blowing in from the west pretty quick, another thing the football field and the weather had in common. Overtime was re-scheduled as everybody fled Moore Stadium. So for now the two teams are tied up in the game that kick started the Great American High School Rivalry series.
I took about 50 pics, which I'll post later...

Moore War has gotten all kinds of publicity this week from KJ103, every night this week they've interviewed cheerleaders/Stucos/etc.
Our rivalry game Piedmont-Deer Creek was also cancelled because of the rain, at halftime. I heard that Piedmont had announcements every day this week morning and afternoon that if they did anything to Deer Creek (such as killing deers and hanging them from the goal posts, carving the f-word into our field's turf, the usual stuff) they'd get punished. We just had one announcement so that we'd be reminded to stay on our side of the field during the game and "not venture over to the Piedmont side" and to park in designated Deer Creek areas to avoid vandalism... And I suppose it was implied that Deer Creek students were not to vandalize their sound box (again) steal the zoology dissection cats and spread them over the Piedmont field (again), or otherwise tear up Piedmont property (again). Also while driving to the Piedmont field Deer Creek drivers have to be careful about their driving speed; the cops in Piedmont are bad all the time but when you're coming from Deer Creek direction they're worse.
