The old Midtown Plaza shopping center has been condemned by the City of Lawton and will be demolished. The owner of it has owned several shopping centers in Lawton, and is too cheap to hire professionals to do structure and landscaping work, so he, a very fragile old man, is often seen out there doing a terrible job at repairs. Thus his buildings are cheap, falling apart, and this one has been condemned by the City of Lawton.

I say it's about time. This needs to be demolished, and this land on West Gore, just a few blocks west of Fort Sill Boulevard, needs to be developed into maybe apartments or offices. NOT RETAIL, leave that for the City's vision of a new "downtown".

Will this be quite a bit of land opening up in a good location then?

about 5-10 acres total. This is a bad area that is overdue for demo!

The building has this dilapidated look that's just terrible. Anyway, there is a demand for new construction in older parts of Lawton, you see it everywhere. This will be one of the most valuable lots of land that Lawton can use to resurrect itself.

This is welcome news.

Midtown Plaza is barely just one block west of the intersection of Fort Sill Blvd. and Gore Blvd. (also where Fort Sill Blvd. turns into 11th Street as it runs south of Gore Blvd.). The only thing between Midtown Plaza and 11th Street is the formerly named 111 Office Building, which was renamed the Northrop Grumman Building for its now top occupant.

The Midtown Plaza property should be converted over into new class A office space. There is a real shortage of truly professional office space in Lawton and this location would be an excellent place to start building it.

I agree new retail development should not go on what will be the former Midtown Plaza property. But where exactly the new retail developments do locate is really going to depend greatly on the amount of property available and traffic flow going to and from it. The areas around the 2nd Street neighborhood in Lawton will need a LOT of street improvement to house major retailers -especially if they're not able to build their stores and giant parking lots directly off 2nd Street. Practicality is a big factor. I think the city council and chamber are underestimating what needs to be done.

And the idea floated of building a new movie theater down there (when the mall theater is so close) is pretty kooky. And they won't be able to match the quality of the Carmike 8 on Lawton's west side, especially when that 8-plex will have all 8 screens converted to Digital Cinema just a couple weeks from now in early October.

You know, it just came to me, what they might have in mind is something more like an outdoor mall, with no parking in front, and one large parking garage wherever it's needed.

Anywho, there are a lot of other buildings in Lawton that need to be demolished, but this is a good start.

There is one on the north side of LEE BLVD 1/2 mile west of Railroad. Don't know who owns it but they can tear it down, i won't complain!

Something like a Outlet Mall would be cool... We need one in Oklahoma and I think Lawton could support one...

Poor old guy, he is cheap... Look at the outcome...

Lawton is so starved for retail right now, and with the huge growth on its way, Lawton would support anything. furthermore, I think I would support the entire demolition of the Lee area between Railroad and Sheridan.
