MTV approaches Union about reality series By BARRY LEWIS World Sports Writer 9/1/2006
Union coach and athletic director Kevin Wright said he was approached by MTV to have his football team be the subject for a second season of the reality series, "Two-a-Days."
"Two-a-Days," which made its debut last week, chronicles the 2005 season of Hoover, which is Union's season-opening opponent on Friday.
"We were selected to follow Hoover, but everything was put on hold," Wright said. "MTV wanted to see what the ratings were for the series before proceeding."
However, it's unlikely Union will be involved if MTV does a second season of "Two-a-Days."
"I doubt it now that I've seen the final product," Wright said. "It's fun to watch, but I thought it would be more football-focused instead of what goes on off the field. But it is MTV, which does aim its programming at teenagers with reality shows like 'Laguna Beach.' "
MTV reportedly is considering doing a second season of "Two-a-Days," with Hoover again or focusing on a high school team in another sport.

The two-time defending Class 6A state champion Redskins' streak at Union-Tuttle will face its biggest challenge on Friday night when they host the consensus top-ranked team in the nation, Hoover (Ala.), at 7:30.

I'd been meaning to post this for a while. It's pretty excited, but I have to go to Moore War, which is probly a bigger deal than even that...

So let me get this straight... MTV is doing a reality show about teenagers in Alabama? I just don't see that fitting in well with their Laguna Beach niche... haha.

I don’t think Union well get the MTV show because of the new Coach and all... They need time to re-build...

Moore War = the Moore/Westmoore game.
FYI to those of you that thought the Alabama group was a bunch of rednecks. Hoover is a hugely affluent area outside Birmingham. These folks have more money than even the Union folks can dream about. Their coach built that place up too. The school is, I believe, less than 10 years old. When he started there, the football boosers were raising about $75k a year...now they get $400K...yes that 400K a year. They are THE football team in the US and I think anyone who watched the game saw why.

From what I heard, the people who toured the Union Campus said it was unbelievable... They thought there high school was nice...
I don’t think Union is going to have a good year... They play Jenks this week at skelly stadium but they well lose that game... They kept airing commercials of Hoover on Fox during the game...

Who won?

I heard it was close, Spartan will probably fill us in.
So, they were extremely impressed with Tulsa Union? Oh and Bomber... Union is a middle-class area of Tulsa, not the upper-cruster section. And besides, haven't you ever heard of rich rednecks?

Jenks is all the rich kids that go to public schools go... There are some in Union People who live at 81st Sheridan area and some at 101st Garnett area...
Holland Hall is located in the Union district and all the kids that would have gone to Union went to the private school instead…

I'm sorry, who here's been to the Ham? There are some very nice suburban area that look like they came right out of Connecticut (Vestavia Hills and Hoover being the nicest), but just about 99% of Birmingham proper, especially areas along a freeway, look like this:
Bessemer (westside industrial suburb)
Not that they couldn't easily turn it around. There's a lot of really not architecture in those derelect parts of Birmingham.
Birmingham not redneck, and better than Tulsa?
