DURANT - City and State Leaders were on hand yesterday to welcome Icon Construction to the area. Icon broke ground on their 75,000 square foot facility for the construction of commercial modular buildings. James Bell, President was grateful for the warm welcome, goodwill and kindness shown by everyone in the Durant area. “Tommy Kramer and Kimberly A. Bowen were a huge influence in this move. They gave me invaluable advice.” The decision to move here was based on the fact that the area is business friendly with a large portion of available trained trade specialists.
Kramer, Butch Arnett and Vice Mayor Ron Cross acknowledged other members of the Team
Durant family, and welcomed Bell, and Icon to the area. James Dunegan, the highway commissioner lead the prayer.
All the town's representatives thanked Bell for his investment in the area, and the creation of jobs.
Icon plans to employ between 75 and 200 people at the Durant facility.
Oklahoma has the strongest urban and rural economies, due in part to the strong economic incentives available at both the state and local level. Team Durant made the decision eight years ago to not only compete with the towns, but “beat them at their own game” said State Senator and Team Durant member, State Sen. Jay Paul Gumm. They came together with the deep-seated belief that “We can do anything.”
Presentations to Bell included a Plaque commemorating the day, a shovel (provided by Tom of Stan's Truck Parts) for either “At home... or the office wall,” quipped Mayor Tomlinson. Vice president of Corporate Development for ICON, Chic Henderson received his own plaque from Cross. Chairman Cathey presented Centennial coins to Bell, Henderson, and Mike Stoica plant manager.
The morning concluded with the shovel ground breaking with representatives from the city: Tomlinson, Chairman John Cathey, Kramer, Gumm, Cross, Rick Hammel, Butch Arnett, James Dunegan; and Icon: Bell, Henderson, Stoica.
