They're building a new mall in Fort Sill. Actually I think it's a renovation of an existing one.

Fort Sill Shopping Center
Lawton, Oklahoma

Carter & Burgess served as lead design consultant to the general contractor for this design-build contract, providing complete architectural, engineering and construction phase services for a 114,000-square-foot retail facility.

The design included the main store with retail space for products such as electronics, clothing and jewelry. A food court and a warehouse merchandise processing area were also included.

The design of the facility included wet-pipe sprinkler, domestic water, sanitary sewer and storm water systems.

Electrical engineering services included primary and secondary electrical distribution systems, communications systems and interior and exterior lighting.

Mechanical engineering services included heating and air conditioning design, an energy analysis and a kitchen exhaust system.

Because the site abutted the adjacent commissary's loading dock, an 18-foot retaining wall was designed using precast concrete components.

The photos they are showing are of the PX complex that has been there for years now. I don't think they mean a full-fledged mall by any means. I've been to many PX/BX complexes thoughout the country, and they are never full retail malls. You generally have the PX, several restaurants in the food court, an optical shop, floral shop, travel agent, and several small kiosk-type vendors. Some have an electronics shop, but that's just an extension of the PX/BX. It's not like Circuit City would be in the mall.

After reading the project description, I noticed that it's all written in past tense, so I believe this is just the synopsis of the renovation that was done back in late 90s.

Oh that's funny. C-B usually deletes projects in their portfolio before too long, so I assumed it was recent. Thanks for the info nonetheless, Gina. smile.gif

They will have to if Lawton doesn't. They have a responsibility to offer services and goods to their men and women.

Well, it looks nice.

I was a little taken aback that they would build a new enclosed mall since that trend is a little out, so it makes sense that it was a renovation.
