Plaza Inn Hotel was sold for $2M June the 6th to John Parrish. The building at 4545 N. Lincoln Boulevard will undergo major renovation, and will be renamed Renaissance Center, ('Renaissance' as in that of the Lincoln corridor). Working with Janus Hotels & Resorts of Florida, Parrish will give the hotel a complete overhaul to bring it to its former glory.

The Jetson's-look-a-like hotel has 305 rooms in 2 buildings, 110,000 square feet of convention space, a ballroom that can hold 1,200, a dinner theatre with 500 seats, and two restaurants, including the Governor's Club.

All will be renovated, and there will be a new pool, fitness center, and public business center.

This place has been a total dump for years. It's perhaps just in a really bad location. I don't think it has ever been very successful. Hopefully all that has happened along Lincoln Blvd. will help pull it up and into a profitable operation. Since it looks like the new owners only paid $7 or $8 a square foot for the place, maybe they can afford the $10 to $15 Million it needs to get into shape. The interior was built out of modular panels and looks really dopey. There were problems like the the door frames were loose in the walls and when a door banged closed, it would shake the whole place. It just has a crappy appearance in general. It needs a load of work.

Some good memories of the place from lots of years gone by were watching a game at Jimmy Johnson's 3 Rings Sports Bar on 5 cent wings night and seeing Sam and Dave live in the dinner theater which is styled like a vintage Las Vagas showroom with the round booths, crystal chandeliers, and the whole nine yards.

What you said.

Hopefully, this might provide a catalyst for much more adventuresome development north of the Capitol ... we shall see.

It was successful as many businesses were on Lincoln until "white flight" hit northeast OKC, it just wasn't successful for a long time. Jack Sussy (The Nomad restaurant) had a large Supper Club at 36th & Lincoln which was torn down in the late 90's after sitting vacant for something like 20+ years. The Lincoln Plaza had enough business for alot of years to be decent because of proximity to the capitol and being nice "enough" to survive. It has been in dire need of renovation for quite awhile.

I think it's a grand development, and as for adventurous development in the general vicinity, there are apartments under construction south and north of the site, most notable the Central Park condos that are already leasing.

I don't understand how that's a bad location. It's a fabulous location. North Lincoln has good parts and bad parts, but the bad parts are fixing to get an overhaul, much like this building. I would generally consider the location of the Plaza Hotel to be one of the better areas along North Lincoln.

It has been a "bad" location because of the surrounding area and years of neglect of that area, but all in all it should be a prime location.

Across the street is this very contemporary, Frank Lloyd Wright-like neighborhood.
