Stores to reopen under new name at Woodland Hills, Tulsa Promenade
Get ready to be "Macyized."

On Sept. 9 the Foley's nameplate disappears for good, and Federated Department Stores Inc. makes retailing history as hundreds of regional department stores across the country reopen as Macy's.

Consumers in 45 states will be introduced to the chain's idea of "affordable luxury," and Federated is betting its Macy's division will soon become a brand instantly identifiable from coast to coast.

Federated -- also the parent company of upscale department store Bloomingdale's -- is now the largest department store company in the country, with more than 800 locations in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam.

All the former May's Department Store Co. stores -- including five Oklahoma Foley's locations -- will transform into Macy's on the same day, Macy's spokesman Kamal Bosamia said. Both of the Macy's stores in Tulsa -- at Woodland Hills Mall and Tulsa Promenade -- will celebrate the new name with actual red carpets outside one of their entrances, Bosamia said.

The stores open at 10 a.m., but at Woodland Hills, special musical entertainment

by local band Snap Dragon begins at 9 a.m. at the store's south entrance. Susan Neal, the city's director of community development and education initiative, will join store general manager Steve Rice to mark Macy's entry into the Tulsa market.

The general manager at the Tulsa Promenade store also will welcome customers at 9:30 a.m.

Both stores will give away 500 gift cards valued at $10, Bosamia said, and mixed in will be two worth $500 and one for $1,000. Those grand prizes will only be revealed when the recipients use the cards.

Macy's own home and apparel brands have been filtering into its acquired stores all summer, and some of the locations have been renovated with new carpet, paint and fixtures, and remodeled dressing rooms.

The Macy's signage has been attached to the former Foley's store at Tulsa Promenade, 41st Street and Yale Avenue. Federated Department Stores Inc. will officially open the store — and another at Woodland Hills Mall — under the new name Sept. 9. The event will be repeated at hundreds of stores across the nation.

Macy's is a pretty upscale store, it's pretty cool that these stores are getting upgraded. I wonder what Federated Department Stores is going to do with their Flagship Foley's, especially at malls that already have a Macy's.

I think they probably will close them... The new Macy's now at Woodland Hills mall-- If it cost too much Dillard’s well be the place to go now...

They are the new mall Anchor for Promenade Mall-- That’s good to hear... That mall needed it...

Yeah, but if hundreds and hundreds of department stores become Macy's, how will that affect the exclusivity and the elite reputation of Macy's? Will it be anything special to have Macy's anymore?

I still feel it has its reputation... But of course not like before... I don’t shop so it will be up to the lady's biggrin.gif

...of course I remember when they were Sanger-Harris......and some were John A. Brown stores. I saw the Macys sign with a banner over it at Stonebriar Mall yesterday in Frisco. The "unveiling" is some stupid marketeers concept, everyone already knows that the change is happening. Why go through the effort to pull a banner down on the same day?

I know the people in Boston are having a hard time swollowing the idea that Filene's is changing to Macy's and the people in Chicago with Marshall Fields changing.

I went to Promenade Mall and went to Macy's--- The place was packed... They had a lot of sales trying to get rid of the old stuff... They have table stands offering new memberships and were giving little chocolate bars out to the customers... They had one section closed off for remodeling...

Change in store at Macy's
9/7/2006

Foley's name will officially disappear Saturday
Tuesday afternoon at the Foley's store in Tulsa Promenade, general manager Lori Rodriquez focused on last-minute touches to signs and merchandise displays.

In two days, customers there will officially be shopping at Macy's, although reissued store credit cards, clothing lines and second-floor home goods already bear the Macy's name.

"We'll be ready," Rodriquez said of her store, which features improved lighting, renovated fixtures, more stylishly dressed mannequins and other amenities put in place by Federated Department Stores Inc., Macy's parent company.

Macy's launch Saturday morning will give Tulsa Promenade shoppers a red-carpet treatment at the mall's Yale Avenue entrance, including a gift-card giveaway to the first 500 customers.

Booker T. Washington High School's drum corps will entertain from 8:30 to 9 a.m., and the band Mystified will play from 9 to 10 a.m., Rodriquez said. Shriner's Club clowns will entertain at the festivities and, weather permitting, a hot air balloon stationed in the parking lot and decorated with the Macy's logo will take riders for a 15-foot lift.

You know Crossroads mall in OKC ended up with a Macy's in this plan.

Can anyone believe that?

Macy's definitely has very recognizable name. The Promenade should benefit even more now. I'm glad to hear this.

For real... I thought that mall was like Eastland Mall...

Yeah, Promenade Mall is going to benefit... They said it is now the Mall's main anchor... Not Dillard’s anymore...

At Woodland Hills, It still Dillard's...
