Sand Springs: The 18-foot dam built at 21st Street for The Channels would create a 12.3-mile, navigable lake with 24.6 miles of shoreline extending into Sand Springs where a marina and residential boardwalk has been envisioned.
Zink Lake riverfront: The study called for expanding River West Festival Park, and taxpayers backed the plan with the passage of the third-penny sales tax extension in May giving $7.6 million for renovations.
Although The Channels does include public areas, the existing park would be under water should the island development be implemented.
"I think all the land up to the railroad tracks will be inundated," said Jerry Lasker, INCOG's executive director. "If you put an island in the river, you'll have to have more river because you don't want to increase flooding."
Lasker said another option is to move the Festival Park farther south where a concept for a baseball stadium was previously proposed south of the 23rd bridge.
Miller said improvements in this area would be included in the $600 million public allocation for The Channels.
Crow Creek corridor: The concept connects the Brookside district to the river via Crow Creek. Plans call for a walkway, improvements to the creek's stone walls to help prevent flooding and restoration of the creek's habitats.
71st Street riverfront: A mixed-use development that could feature a fitness center and a 7-acre lake with fishing piers, a restaurant, overlook and trails is possible on the east bank. On the west side, the Turkey Mountain Wilderness Area could be expanded to feature the planned Native American Cultural Center.
Jenks / South Tulsa: A low-water dam that would create a 3-mile lake about half a mile south of the Creek Turnpike bridge to spur development on both sides of the river.
Bixby: A concept for a "Bixby Landing" includes completed plans for a sports complex and a proposal for riverfront retail, entertainment and commercial redevelopment.
Broken Arrow: River access would be from Aspen Avenue, where a sports complex could be improved. It could also be the site of a nature center and additional river trails.
Miller said the projects would be based on a top-ten community wish list that included riverfront-oriented retail shops and restaurants and developing the river lakes for rowing, kayaking and fishing.
The county won't be building restaurants and shops in the suburbs but would be putting in the infrastructure to make those developments possible, Miller said.
Tulsa Stakeholders Inc. would raise $100 million in private funds for The Channels project and $88 million would be raised from power sales from renewable energy sources that are incorporated into the project.
The $600 million in public funding for The Channels could come from a four-tenths of a cent county sales tax.

Alright I'm pinning this, and when I feel like it (probably after I get my 100 Moore War photos up) I'll find and post some pics of all of these developments... I've seen many.
So there is only $7.6M (as far as the gub's tab) for the Channels existing?

I believe most of the money is still there since we didn't get the airlines to take the incentive we offered. This plan could really put Tulsa on the map.

I don't believe the Boeing slice was included in the tax you pay... when Boeing didn't take the offer the funding was cut, not stalled.

Yes. I should have been clearer. What I was getting at is if Tulsa approved that additional money at one point, I'm sure we would be willing to ante up again.

Broken Arrow
With the Indian Springs Sports Complex as a major anchor to build upon, the Broken Arrow riverfront has great potential. The riverfront area has a built-in advantage of a major sports facility that attracts many participants, family members, and visitors. The proposed plan can greatly enhance the enjoyment of the Indian Springs Sports Complex by adding a pier and commercial attractions in a unique riverfront setting.

I remember there was some high-rise development recommended (although no real solution as to how to GET the talls) aroudn the Zinc Lake one.
How is construction going of those apartments in Sand Springs? Does anyone know or has anyone been over there recently?
I like how they added the amusement park for the Jenks portion of the River. What if Bells really would move out there...?
More land for them to build, bring out more people to the river, and it looks good...
Spartan65- 09-15-2006
They were considering it but I think those talks pretty much sibsided. If they did move, they would be leaving behind an amusement park they've spent a lot of money on.

Yeah, Tulsa finally let them build that new Roller Coaster they have wanted for a while now... It well be a Steel Roller Coaster and supposedly, the best roller coaster in the state... Let’s see what happens with that...
