That's not a reason to not encourage development. And if they developed the area, there would not be such a shortage in space, and it would not be so pricy. I agree that the struggling artists do not need to be priced out of the area, and that is a concern that will have to be met before development can be done in the area. But if you do not develop, and the district continues to prosper, the artists will have to go and it will be a shame.

It's a liberal community of liberal artists quite liberally based on liberal principles of creativity... if you will. And apparently that hurts its reputation with some people (though this boy who wasn't allowed to go down there had been in private/home school before enrolling at mine and he usually had a bible and a highlighter with him, so I would imagine that he had an extremely conservative Christian family.) and they even get it mixed up with the 39th St Enclave.

Not the L-word (liberal) and the B-word (Bible)!

It does remind me of some of our local "hippie" areas around Austin just at a much smaller scale. Also, anywhere where artists gather there is going to be a perception by some that it is a "gay area". I would not consider The Paseo as a gay area like the 39th & Penn area.

There are rainbow flags paid for by the city that adorn Classen Boulevard. I find it hard to imagine that our city council would be vendictive towards a neighborhood with a gay perception.

I don't think lack of development of The Paseo has anything to do with sexual orientation, it has to do with the people of the area not pushing the city for changes. There are some who want change but as previously discussed there is a group that doesn't. Nothing will really happen until those groups present a united front to the city with some sort of development plan.

I'll tell you what, that Paseo Grill is making things happen. Apparently they have some sort of a renowned chef and there was a definite line out the door tonight at around 7.

... And I'm guessing you're probably not eating there a lot if you live on a "Paseo" budget, you dig.

So the district will obviously need some units to go up that cater to a higher income bracket, while not kicking the lower income bracket out. This will help businesses on The Paseo.

I haven't been there yet as I'm on a near paseo budget.
